ISC w.10 Drawing

Commercial + Residential Drawings

Depending on the project the number of drawings will vary from 140 - 250

D r a w i n g   C a t a g o r i e s

Context drawings
  1. common scales 1:1000, 1:500, 1:200
  2. site plan > outline building > focus on context around the building environmental conditions
  3. location plan
  4. site section > in contour > shows relationship of the building + the ground

Location Drawings
  1. common scales are 1:100, 1:50
  2. show the layout and organisation of the proposal.
  3.  i.e. Floor Plan, Sections, Exterior Elevations, Interior
Elevations, Reflected Ceiling Plan, Electrical Plan

Detail drawings
  1. common scales 1:10, 1:5
  2. show how complex parts of the proposal are made
  3. i.e. windows, stairs, cabinets, custom light fittings,
    furnishing, tiling, roofing, foundations
  4.  custom made things
 Schedules
  1.  common scales are 1:20, 1:10, 1:5.
  2. the are illustrated lists of pre-made components you
will be using in the proposal.
  3. premade things in these drawings
  4. files from companies - cad files of product : Ikea, Bunnings, ect.

Lastly cross reference, clear and concise for builders, engineers, project managers, and furniture designers

AutoCAD

TIP
Firstly go the the gear icon > bottom right corner > change to auto cad classic
save often CAD is very prone to crashing.

inserting plans/ images insert> raster image

offset to make new lines

trimming is like a craft knife so you first select the intersecting lines you want to keep (the boundary lines) > then the lines you want to take away from using the boundary as a knife

assignment
  • inside wall is 310 thickness
  • renovated heritage building > 50 thickness inner wall
  • outside wall is 400
  • windows 1010

ISC w. 9 Gallery 1 + 2

RHINO

Lighting Conditions + Materials

rendering
  1. make sure vray is current render
  2. click> M at the top right hand corner to open render options
  3. to create new materials > right click scene materials > add +edit
  4. create layers + apply to selected materials
  5. play with refraction, reflection, transparency
changing background/ environmental conditions
  1. click O > environment > environment > G.I.( global illumination or even amount of light within the infinite space of rhino)
  2. global switches > have a play
  3. O > output > frame change to 200 x 200 or whatever for quick render previews
 Building Signage + Curbside detail
  1. solid > text > place
  2. bringing in images > surface > rectangular plane (4th option) > picture frame (last option) > place

ISC w.8 Site Models

GIS - boundary lines(property) , man holes, contours, building layouts, essentially a detailed/ modified version of google maps.

http://maps.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/aucklandcouncilviewer/
may need to consider browser. site access is restricted in terms of volume and trafficking
the more users, the slower it works.

click globe > map content = menu ( i.e. contours, terrain, aerial photos, topo, ect. )

EXTRACT
click cube/box icon > data extract >accept legal notice = data extract menu
  1. the + - bar on the far left, lets you adjust the scale
  2. tick contours + CRS parcel
  3. click first icon to select what to extract
  4. to end selection double click
  5. download to desktop > there should be 2 DXF files
  6. unzip file
WHEN IN RHINO

  1. import autocad files
  2. accept contours in command to convert contour lines > solid
  3. render view to see contours
  4. hide all layers accept for raw contours
  5. go to rhino terrain > create > triangulated mesh > accept = contour lines into solids
  6. cropping contoured surface rhino terrain > edit > clip rectangle  (select rectangle > enter >select contoured surface > enter = crop
  7. fill gaps in building ground to building draw polyline > extrude down below contours

importing/ pasting  layers/ objects form other files

Tips and Bits
BITMAP(pixels) V.S. VECTOR (points + lines)

changing layers make selection > right click destination layer >

align vector objects + lines + junk to 0.0 coordinates otherwise they can be lost in the abyse

ISC w.4 Boolean + AI

AI

Illustrator - vector editor

points to line - line to surface 2d

Ctrl>R to activate rulers

Ctrl> shift > z to move forward

RHINO

Solids + Drawing 3d + Boolean

Boolean tool.1 - union, joins solids
Boolean tool.2 - takes apple bites out of solids
Boolean tool.3 - takes away solids and creates a new solid from the points which intersected
Boolean tool.4 - cuts the box like a knife leaving 3 solids out of two which intersected

3D models to 2D plans

Turning RHINO into AI plans: make 2d drawings > tick show tangent lines

ISC w.3 Micro bio lamps

RHINO

Surfaces + Lines
Terms = command language

Poly surfaces - solid, a continued closed surface which has no breaks or gaps

Poly line - continuous line verses lines which meet, yet are segmented

Curve - continuous line

Commands/Notes

Tip
When you Jump from dimension to dimension Rhino leaves traces  of the first dimension bu copying the content to make the conversion. These traces are called profile. The profiles reside below the form.

 Changing grid command>options

making 3d objects from curves
when drawing curves- holding shift will make the line 'ortho' meaning straight

to transform/edit curves select CONTROL POINT

Revolve - converts curves from 2d to 3d, rotating on an axis

Offset the surface > command:offset then to make it solid >command option solid > type thickness

Curves from solids > project

creating surfaces + solids from multiple curves

Draw curves  > loft them > align the curves in the options

LOFT - turns multiple lines into a surface

OFFSET - (offset surface> solid) gives surface depth making it into a solid

When drawing curves if you hold control while drawing points the line will travel along the z axis

Extruding closed curves = solid

Ghosted view- right click perspective

-Line/ Curve drawing - space bar to finish drawing
   - to cap these sorts of curves surface>patch then there will be a dialogue about the detail intensity.

ISC w.2 Fujimoto haus pointers

RHINO

Set Up
aut online>useful things> RHINO missing tools

then in RHNO go to tools at the top> tool bar> open the missing toolbar file from desk top

click on the piece of pie = layers
click on the rainbow doughnut = properties

Useful things to know

z , x , y coordinate = 0

always Esc between commands = neutral mode

by clicking space bar the last command will appear again

moving objects between layers. select object>right click over the destination layer>click change object layer

Snaps
Object Snap
click to select desired snap orientation

Grid Snap or Snap
rhino options>grid> then type in coordinates

viewing

shift>right click
right click view title> to change mode (ghosted)

Assignment Fujimoto house

no block/level exceeds 350mm

Render Imaging

to get a better perspective view of interior right click perspective> view port properties>change the camera lens to 24 or 25

shadowing in PS_ creating architectural shadows
polygonal lasso tool = shadow & filter blur - gauasian blur

After every session, refine in class assignments.

Pre-tutorials available for extra assistance
Class notes + semester outline at autonline
Use a hard drive over USB, back back back it up.
To lock the computer> Ctrl Alt Del
To unzip files click.hold.drag it out onto desktop
You can't work off of zip files, they will open but have issues saving make a folder every week, save zip file content into folder archive Work off of desktop, and save often
